First son, William A. Riley, born September 29, 1759. Seven more children were born to John and Sara, some in Pennsylvania and the rest in North Carolina. When William was 9 years old, John and Sarah moved from Delaware County, PA to Orange County, NC. John was a Revolutionary War soldier and served 84 months. He was given a land grant of approximately 600 acres in Mecklenburg County, NC, according to military records. John’s son William was also a Revolutionary War soldier in the North Carolina militia. William married Nancy Davis on December 5, 1792 in Guilford County, NC. They had 10 children before his death on March 25, 1835, in Guilford County, NC.
